Sedation Dentistry

If the thought of going to the dentist makes you nervous, you’re not alone. It’s normal to have some level of anxiety at the dentist’s office, even when you trust your dentist and know your procedure will be painless and good for your health.

We’re always willing to go the extra mile for our patients. If there’s anything we can do to help reduce your dental anxiety, we’ll do it! Our sedation dentistry is one of our most effective methods of reducing dental anxiety in our patients.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is the use of medication to help patients relax before and during their procedure. At our office, we offer three different types of sedation dentistry in order to best meet your needs.

Laughing Gas

This method of sedation dentistry is applied through a mask that is placed over the patient’s nose before their treatment begins. This gas is inhaled throughout the procedure, and makes it easy for you to relax and forget about any previous stress.

Laughing gas is very effective in helping patients feel more comfortable in the dentist’s chair, and also wears off quickly after the mask is removed. This means you will be able to drive yourself home from your appointment and won’t experience any lingering sleepiness or grogginess!

Oral Conscious Sedation

If you don’t like the idea of wearing a mask throughout your treatment, oral conscious sedation might be a better fit for you. This sedation style has all the same benefits of laughing gas in the form of a pill you take before your appointment.

Your dentist will tell you when to take this pill so that the effects will have fully set in by the time you’re ready for your treatment. With the help of the oral conscious pill you can expect to feel calm and relaxed in the dentist’s chair, even if you were nervous when you first arrived at the office!

IV Sedation

As the name suggests, IV sedation is an intravenous solution that is administered directly into your bloodstream. This is the fastest-acting sedation option at our office! Plus, it is easy to adjust the sedation levels up or down depending on your changing needs throughout the appointment.

You’ll be conscious and awake throughout your IV sedation treatment, although you might feel relaxed enough to drift off. IV sedation is stronger than laughing gas or oral conscious sedation, which is why we only use it as needed rather than as a standard sedation dentistry method.
